Congregational Giving

The Texas Louisiana Gulf Coast Synod and the churchwide expression of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America provide channels for faithful Lutherans and their congregations to support the shared mission of doing God’s work in the world and proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ.

Live On, the Gulf Coast Synod’s endowment fund, provides significant financial support beyond the Synod’s annual budget to support programs that are critical to the life of the church, including scholarships for clergy candidates’ graduate education; campus ministry; mission starts and redevelopments, and seed money grants to encourage innovation and creative ministries.

The Live On board of directors encourages congregations to set aside some time in September to educate members about these shared responsibilities for the future of the church and to inspire individuals to go beyond their current level of stewardship to generous giving as they hear and see the need.

The practice of generosity takes the support of an entire faith community, conversations between individuals in all generations and a focus on households. The Live On board, the Synod office and the Gulf Coast Synod’s planned giving adviser are prepared to provide information and materials to describe the endowment’s current activities and recent successes as well goals and practices. Our regional gift planner is Dr. Lizbeth Johnson, Lutheran Foundation of the Southwest, and she may be reached by email at
